Having a good portrait made makes good business sense

Karen has blogged about it before: Having a good portrait made of yourself is important no matter what profession you are in or ambitions you have.

First, you never know when the media might come a-calling wanting to feature you in an article like Fast Company did Domino’s Ramon DeLeon.

You’re doing yourself a favor, and the media outlet, by having a photo on hand. Because deadlines and budgets are tight, editors and producers don’t always have the resources for getting an image made for their stories. But if by chance they are able to assign a photographer to make your picture, there’s no guarantee you’ll like the image.

Second, to help maintain or enhance your professional reputation, having a strong, smart online presence is important. If you are using LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter or other social media sites, you’re expected to include a picture of yourself.  You’ll want to use one that communicates the qualities you want the public to know about you.

Because getting a portrait that work can be pricey, Kring Lerner Group is offering friends and colleagues good portraits at a good price during a rare portrait shoot.

Examples from our previous shoots are on Facebook. We have some special shoots in the works for 2012. They will include both studio and environmental portraits, the services of a stylist…and a little bit of fun.

Portrait Fun with Friends and Colleagues

Laura WashingtonBeth BottsKaren, with colleague Maura Hernandez, has been making portraits for new and old friends in a series of quick portrait drop-in sessions called Portrait Fun.

“The importance of fun during these shoots is not to be taken lightly. It’s only because we are having some fun and being creative that we are making successful images that reflect some of the best aspects of our subjects’ personalities,” Karen says. “It also helps that everyone is coming prepared, well-dressed and coifed.”

Portrait Fun is being offered monthly. Later shoots will include stylists. Right now affordability is a priority.

A few minutes in the Life of Nicholas Wolfe

August 21, 2009, 10:14 p.m.: Seven-year old Nicholas Wolfe hops on his pogo stick in front his family’s home on Linden Ave. in Deerfield.

This summer Joel Lerner and eight other Pioneer Press photographers spent 24-hour observing and recording the daily experiences of the people associated with the Deerfield, Bannockburn and Riverwoods communities. This shot of Joel played large on the cover of Pioneer’s special section, Day in the Life of Deerfield. The full section can be downloaded from Pioneer’s website.

Bright Lights, Big City

LFProm_dt404Kring250Had a great time photographing Lake Forest High School’s prom again this year.

The fun started at the school. As is Lake Forest’s tradition, all the kids and their dates met at the school, then they filed out, two by two, out the front door to the red carpet and their assigned buses. Lake Forest parents and neighbors come for the spectacle. Some parents sat on the bleachers that were provide, while others jockeyed for a good position to see the parade and hopefully get a picture of their kids. Of course, we had the best spot. The buses took them downtown to the Marriott on Michigan Avenue. They danced and fully enjoyed themselves. Starting at 11:30 p.m., buses began taking the kids back to the school, with the hard partiers getting an extra hour. The bus transportation is part of Lake Forest’s Project Safe Prom.

Joel was especially reflective about this event. Except for graduation or maybe one more game, this might be the last time Joel sees some of these kids. So many of them he’s covered for the Lake Forester or Sportpics. He’s really enjoyed them.
