Bears’ Johnny Knox made a touchdown in the third quarter at Bears-Jets game at Soldier Field Sunday, December 26. Joel caught the shot and it made the Sun-Times front page the next day. (Another made its way to the Southtown Star.)

Joel won a 3rd place in the nationwide Suburban Newspaper Association competition for Sport Photo. “Nice to be recognized for a photo I enjoyed taking so much,” said Joel.

Joel Lerner covered inauguration celebrations in Chicago’s North Shore for Pioneer Press that day. “I was proud when the student body stood up, without being prodded, when Obama took the oath of office,” said Joel, ETHS Class of ‘81. “My job has its perks.”
